Civil Rights in the US

Civil Rights Timeline and Major Events
1.) Plessy v. Ferguson- Took place after the Civil War, Homer Plessy was mixed but under law he was considered black and had to follow the segregation laws even though he wasn't fully black. He was in a black cart on a railroad and refused to sit there and not in the white section. He was arrested and put on trial. His case went all the way of to the Louisiana Supreme, where after a long fight he pled guilty and paid the fine but, helped with the foundation of the "separate but equal" So even though he didn't win he still made a difference.
2.) Brown v. Board of Education- United States Supreme Court decided that separating schools between black and white students unconstitutional.
3.) Bakke Decision- Decision of the Supreme Court that ruled unconstitutional the use of fixed quotas for minority applicants at professional schools
